What Your Child Learns at Nursery
When at nursery, your child will be involved in many different learning opportunities and activities. Activities will be planned with the children in mind, taking into account their needs and interests. There may be a topic with lots of themed activities, but also ‘in the moment activities’ which are completely lead by the children. If your child comes into nursery with a particular interest or new love for something, we will incorporate this into their day.
What activities are available in a day nursery?
- Messy play/ Sensory play
- Sand pit
- Water table/ water play
- Painting, drawing, gluing and anything crafty
- Creating and construction toys
- Music and dancing
- Songs and rhymes
- Jigsaws and puzzles
- Cooking
- Math and literacy across the nursery environment
- Outdoor area or plan for regular use
- ICT equipment
- Age appropriate educational videos
All activities will be age appropriate, E.G. baby room would not have small items that could cause a choking hazard. The more natural and real items available to explore create a better learning environment as children are able to explore their senses and create their own games.
Nursery activities are often messy. This is one reason that we have a uniform. Children want to explore and get fully involved in play and clothing should never restrict their play.
Your child will build friendships with other children, developing their social skills, supporting them to build one of the most important foundations for later life. There will be many activities planned to encourage the children to share and take turns.
Nursery learning will support many life skills, with social skills being one of them. When your child attends nursery, they will follow a routine, rules, learn manners, wait their turn and much more. This is all encompassed in their daily routine which becomes a comfort to our children during their time at nursery.
