Why Your Child Should go to Nursery
Preparing your child for school
The benefits of attending nursery are immense, opportunity to mix with other children and explore different cultures or faiths. Creating higher respect for individuality.
Growing ability to adapt to surroundings and enhance social skills, meaning children feel more secure and supported in different/ new environments.
Confidence around adults, understanding of the role of a ‘teacher’ and the routine of school e.g. promoting independence, teaching children how to put their own shoes on, wash their hands, tidy toys, share and take turns. This allows them to thrive in school by being able to complete simple independent tasks without requiring the help of a teacher.
Having an understanding of boundaries and routine in nursery sets each child up to understand routine and expectations in school e.g. assembly, teacher input, circle time. This provides an advantage as lots of time can be wasted in school waiting for children to learn the routine or to simple listen to the teacher input.
Playtime is encouraged
Providing the opportunity to play and explore alongside their peers, allowing them to gain in confidence and develop social skills. Being active and independent in exploring the nursery environment allows them to investigate new interests and revisit key experiences.
Outdoor exploration also enables a greater learning opportunity, picking out key features in the environment to delve in to greater detail. Also providing a chance to run, jump, hop, skip, climb, dig, build in an ever changing environment, vital for the development of muscle control, balance and coordination.
Potty training
This is not the sole reason to send your child to nursery, but in terms of assistance with big developmental goals any help will be welcomed. Potty training in nursery is generally a fun and exciting new experience and there is always a peer who is also training at the same time. This sparks interest in the use of a potty/toilet and enables us to plan activities based around potty training.
We follow your lead. There are so many ways to introduce potty training and in order to make training a smooth process it is important we are all using the same method. We are trained in supporting children through this section of development and for some children it can be difficult or scary. We will do all we can to breeze through the process and minimise the time.
Socialising
Encouraging socialisation with other children is vital for successful development, showing attachment to other children they regularly play with and building relationships with peers. Children learn so much from each other including speech, new ideas and problem solving. This is an essential part of nursery life.
